Es ist mehr eine Frage der Freiheit, als eine Frage der Möglichkeiten. Es gibt Menschen die ihr Leben zerstören und es gibt Menschen die etwas aus ihrem Leben machen. Gestern haben wir erneut einen jungen Menschen gehört der die Freiheit genutzt hat etwas aus sich zu machen. Das er auch die Möglichkeiten dazu hatte, wollen wir nicht unterschlagen. Aber – wie ich meinem zehnjährigen Sohn versuche zu erklären: Talent ist wichtig, aber reicht nicht. Tägliches Üben, wahrscheinlich um die 8 Stunden, ist die andere Säule des Erfolgs.
Die Rede ist von Christopher Tainton. Klar, er hatte gute Voraussetzungen, sein Vater ist Justus Franz, seine Mutter die Pianistin Carol Tainton. Und dennoch – ohne Fleiß kein Preis. Den hätte er gestern wieder und wieder verdient. Tainton spielte Werke von Hans Werner Henze, Schumann, Liszt und Rachmaninoff. Es sind selten gespielte Werke und Tainton gibt in flüssigem Englisch eine lehrreiche und, wie ich finde, spannende Einführung in die Absichten der Komponisten. Sein Vortrag ist unkonventionell, unaufdringlich, sein Anschlag einfühlsam und doch kraftvoll. Zum ersten Mal habe ich Henze wirklich intensiv erlebt und, er, der mir nicht sonderlich nahe war, hat sich mir besser erschlossen. Das habe ich Tainton zu verdanken.
Tainton ist 28 Jahre alt, wirkt gefestigt und souverän. Seine sympathische Ausstrahlung, frei von jeder Arroganz, ist erholsam in einer Zeit wo Wichtigkeit oft Können ersetzt. Bereits als elfjähriger Begann er sein Musikstudium an der Hochschule für Musik in Hannover. Christoph Eschenbach hat ihn gefördert und arbeitete mit dem jungen Talent zusammen. Tainton gewann früh zahlreiche Preise: Erster Preis bei „Jugend musiziert“ 1994 und den Münster Klassik-Preis für seine Interpretation von Ludwig van Beethovens letzter Klaviersonate, op 111. Tainton begleitete den Bundespräsidenten nach China und debütierte in Moskau und London.
Der Abend mit Christopher Tainton war ein absoluter Gewinn und wird uns in Erinnerung bleiben. Wir werden den Weg dieses hervorragenden jungen Pianisten beobachtend begleiten. Er gehört schon jetzt zu den großen Klavierkünstlern am Beginn eines neuen Jahrtausends.
